Decades - 40's Fashion all in Pinks

Well, and a little Purple! lol

Hello there,

One of the great things about being on the Spectrum Noir Education Design Team (and there are many many many great things about being on the team!) is that we take time once per month to go back over our team mates tutorials and pick one to follow.  It's such an awesome thing to do, I love it, it really gives me a chance to breath, follow the advice and I always learn something about my own style and how I approach colour :D

This month I decided to follow an awesome tutorial by my colleague, the uber colourist Laine Webb which you can find on the Spectrum Noir Blog HERE and here's mine using Laine's colours and tutorial:

Phew...I'm not a pink kinda person, so this was a real challenge :D
Here's what I used:
Copy and Inspired by a Tutorial by Laine Webb:
Style: A6 Tent Card
Image: Saturated Canary – 40’s Fashion
Spectrum Noir Markers:
Skin: FS2, 4, 6, 9, TN2
Hair: BP1, 2. 3, 5, DR7
Clothes: PL1, 2, 3, 5
Materials:
Neenah Solar White card; Crafter’s Companion Matt Black card;
Collal All Purpose glue;

Other: White Versamark ink; Sentiment stamp – Little Darlings Rubber Stamps Vintage Words; Corner Punch.

Here's more pics, I mounted her simply as she's so colourful I thought you know what, let her speak for herself!

I hope you pop over to the Spectrum Noir blog and check out Laine's tutorial, and have a look around as there are many many more awesome tutorials there...I'm off to pick which one I'd like to try for next month!

Box It Up with Gorgeous Stamps

Hello again,

Another sample from me today from the gorgeous Downton Abbey collection from Crafter's Companion.... so exciting!  You will just love the Triple CDrom that has crafty collections for all the characters 'above' stairs and 'below', and then an amazing collection of rubber stamps, dies and embossing folders that whether you like and watch Downton Abbey or not will be just perfect in your crafty collection

I have stamped the gorgeous border stamp from set's 3&4 of the Rubber Stamp sets on Create and Craft today (4 day deal) and used a repeated pattern to make this easel card topper for my gift box:

After I had created the topper I decided to colour the stamps with a graduated fading effect going up the card.  It's a great technique to do, just a few pens in the same colour family and tone can be used to work your way down to very pale.

My Top Tip would be to do the top palest flower and the very last flower at the bottom first, that way you will know how much to fade out so you achieve the effect you are after

Here's what I used:

Style: Easel Card Box Topper
Image: Downton Abbey Stamp set 3&4
(repeated pattern)
Spectrum Noir markers used:
BGR4, HB1, 2, 3; coloured dark fading out upwards
Materials:
Crafter’s Companion Black card
Neenah Solar White card
Downton Abbey CD coordinating papers & ribbons Disc 1
Collal All Purpose and Tacky glues

Ribbon, Bling and Pearl string from That Craft Place

And pics of the inside:

Top Tip for the shredded paper - I coloured up a white/ivory A4 sheet of handmade paper and coloured it roughly (didn't worry about gaps) using the chisel nib of one of my middle tone Spectrum Noir markers so it matched the colours on top.   I folded it up like a fan and then cut slither's (that's a fun word to say lol) to drop in the box

Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you managed to catch the show's on Create and Craft to see the fabulous range demonstrated :D

hugs,

Are you ready for Downton Abbey!

Hello there,

Well, I am one of the very few people who have never watched Downton Abbey!  I know there are just loads of you that have and love it but hey ho it would be a boring ole world if we all liked the same thing hey :D

Anyway...have you heard the crafty news?  No?  Well.....Crafter's Companion will launch the Official Downton Abbey Crafting Collection on Create and Craft Monday 21st September!  Yes, this Monday...woohoo

So exciting!  You will just love the Triple CDrom that has crafty collections for all the characters 'above' stairs and 'below', and then an amazing collection of rubber stamps, dies and embossing folders that whether you like and watch Downton Abbey or not will be just perfect in your crafty collection

I was lucky enough to get to play with the stamp sets and teamed them up with my Spectrum Noir marker pens

I really really really didn't want to send this one in to CCHQ!  It's one of those rare...omgosh I made that moments! lol

I layered the stamps, masking as I went along to arrange the stamps along the border, then fussy cut a border with my small scissors (Fiskars of course and I've had them years!)   I then glued it to a piece of black card that was just bigger and then again fussy cut the edge stamp border :D  I adore the effect it created...here's what else I used to make it:

Style: Half Gate Fold
Image: Downton Abbey Stamp set 1&2
Spectrum Noir markers used:
BT1, 2, 4, 6
IG3, 5, GB10, 6
DR7, CR11, 8, 2
Materials:
Downton Abbey CD for sentiment Disc 1
Crafter’s Companion Teal Pearlescent card
Neenah solar white card
Crafter’s Companion Matt Black card
Collal All Purpose Glue

Collal Tacky Glue

You can catch the show's on Create and Craft:

Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you'll pop back over the weekend for more sneak peeks of Downton Abbey, also Crafter's Companion UK Facebook Page for more news....

We've gone all Steampunk!

Hello there,

Over on That Craft Place Blog we've gone all Steampunk for the challenge this fortnight and if you check out the Etsy Store you'll be able to find some absolutely awesome digital images to choose from to join in.

Here's my DT inspiration using Set Sail Steampunk Style

Steampunk always scares me just a little bit, I just love the style but I am in awe of some just inspiring Mixed Media artists out there that just blow me away with their creations that I feel a little tentative about approaching it myself!  So this took a week of thinking to put together as a result lol

Here's what I used to make it:
Style: Tent Fold A6
Theme: Steampunk
Image: Set Sail Steampunk Style, That Craft Place Etsy Store
Spectrum Noir Markers:
Skin: TN3, FS9, 6, 4, 2
Hair: True Black, BGR2, 3, 5
Clothes & bits: CG2, IG4, 6, DR6
Background: GB2, 4, 6
Materials:
160gsm Super Smooth Card, That Craft Place
Graphic 45 8x8 Typography Pad, That Craft Place
MDF shapes by That Craft Place
DecoArt Crackle Paint & gloss medium, That Craft Place
Crafter’s Companion Matt Black card

Tim Holtz Accessories Writing Desk Bigz die

And a few more pics:

I just love how the MDF and the ink bottle turned out, so I can see more of this type of embellishment coming your way lol

Thank you so much for stopping by and please pop by the That Craft Place Challenge Blog because trust me, my uber talented teamies on the design team have some real corkers for you this time :D

Today I get to tell you a little about me, and my BFF!

Her name is Nic Thandi, and she IS my person :D  The great thing is she doesn't have a blog so can't comment or get me back lol

Nic and I have been tangled in each other's lives for many years and I really really can't imagine a future with her not in it.  She is complicated and simple, straight-forward and all over the place!  She is Nic!  So clever and articulate, an amazing mother and I will always be her person sticking to her like glue (and as a crafter, I know glue, so it will stick well lol)

So, this one is dedicated to my Nic :D

Just how fabulous is this stamp!  Perfect for any BFF, but you'll have to get your own, mine is taken! lol

Create a Card Box!

Hello there,

Well almost all the children/young adults back to school or college now, 1 to go on Monday so my posts may well get back to normal and  you'll see a little bit more of me!  (we still have 4 children/teenagers at home so the holidays are noisy lol)

Today I'd like to share one of my samples for the upcoming Create and Craft show next week....Crafter's Companion are back with show's starting at 8am on Monday with Create a Card A6 dies and some totally awesome Christmas Create a Card Accordion dies!  But, I'll share the Accordion samples later....I really want to share a box today.

I have made this style of box for the last launch, and it was so popular I was asked to write a tutorial showing how I made it for the Crafter's Companion Blog, (find it HERE) so I thought I'd make another but using an A6 Create a Card die ready for the show's next week.

The A6 Create a Card die's will fit in most die cutting machines vertically (expcept the Saphire) so this is a great box to make for pressies...

Here's what I used to make it...
Style: Tall Box
Die’sire Create a Card A6 Decorative Bell
Crafter’s Companion Matt Black card
Centura Pearl Hint of Gold
Crafter’s Companion Acetate
Crafter’s Companion Spray & Sparkle Iridescent
Collal All Purpose glue, Crafter’s Companion red liner tape

Easy Crystals

The Spray and Sparkle really makes a shimmer to black card!  Here's the close ups..

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you pop by again soon x

Mama's Boy...

Hello there,

It's September!  Where is this year going!  Anyhoo, the first of the month means we can share the start of a new challenge over on the Spectrum Noir Blog

The theme this month is 'Embossing' - it can be either wet or dry embossing and the only rule is you must use a Spectrum product in your make, that's it!  So you can go crazy with your Spectrum Noirs, Spectrum Aqua Markers, Aqua Tints or Spectrum Pencils

Here's my Design Team inspiration:

I seem to be firmly routed in the CAS style of late!  Who knew I'd love it so much!  I was pleased with how this turned out, but I am still a little unhappy that I stuck the 'smile' die cut at the top!  I think it was way better before I stuck it there, but I couldn't get it off without ruining it so there it is.

Here's what I used to make it:
1.
Medium: Spectrum Noir markers
Skin: TN3. FS2. 9, 7, CR2
Hair: EB2, 6, 7, 8
Clothes: BGR 1, 3, 4, 5, DR7, CR7
Shoes: IG1, 5, 7, True Black

Image: Saturated Canary – It’s A Spring Thing: Mama’s Boy

Crafter’s Companion Matt Black card
Linen Texture card
Embossing folder: Craftwell Teresa Collins Just Words A4 folder

Easy Crystals, Distress Ink, Black Momento Ink
Die'namics Blueprint die set

Here's some more pic's

Don't forget to hop over to the Spectrum Noir Blog to join the Monthly challenges

Thank you so much for stopping by and please do leave me a comment, I love to read all your feedback x
