Betty Goes Back To School!

Hello again,

It's Sunday so that means challenge time!

I have some inspiration for you to kick start the new challenge at That Craft Place Challenge Blog.  The theme this time is....TAGS!

Well, when was the last time I posted a tag!  or made a tag!  middle of last year I think!  So this really was a challenge...but you know what...that's a good thing so game on!

After putting the first 3 attempts in the bin, I really am quite proud of this one...

Image: Back To School by That Craft Place Etsy Shop from the Betty Boots range

Inside matching the outside :D
Here's the how's and what's:
Supplies from That Craft Place Facebook Group
160gsm Super Smooth card for alcohol markers; Copics; Graphic 45 paper pads (this one is Typography); Dies (this one was an old Sizzex large die); ribbons; MDF shapes (Rabbit is from a fabulous set of rabbits); acrylic paint (on the rabbit); block metal embellie; Cosmic Shimmer Texture Paste and Cosmic Shimmer Acrylic Glue; Kraft card and black card.
Other supplies:
String; safety pin; bead; black micron pen; old book pages; black Candi dots
How's:
Making a tag shaped card:
I cut an A4 sheet of Kraft card in half along the short edge, this way you get the fold at the top of the card, not the side (if you cut it in half along the long edge you get a standard fold) making my A6 card base.
I then I measured from the folded edge 2cms down each side and marked it with a pencil.  Then measure 1 cm in along the folded edge and mark, repeat on the other side.  Now join the marks each side so you have 2 triangle shapes then snip them off with the scissors.  Then using your score board (I can't live without my Big Score) emboss a fold line across the top at the 2 cm marks so that we can glue the very top together.
Last thing to do - cut 2 rough small squares of waste Kraft card, and glue them in the middle of the tag top on the front and then back (this will reinforce the hole for the string) and then open up the card to add glue to the very top (above the score line!) and then glue together.  Then punch the hole (I used my Big Bite) and the base is all done.
TOP TIP: My top tip for this make is if you want to use a standard A6 envelope (and why not, they are really cheap to get hold off) then once you have folded the Kraft card in half, cut 1 cm off the bottom!  It's a tiny amount but its just enough not to be noticed but means you can put the string and stuff on top and still get it in a standard envelope!  :D happy dance

The rest is matting and layering using the supplies listed above.  But please let me know if you have any questions and I'll be more than happy to help :D
The only other addition is the sentiment that was hand written copying the font from the backing paper (black micron pen)

Here's the close ups:

Don't forget to hop on over to That Craft Place Challenge Blog and join in the challenge, I can't wait to see what creations we have this week...each week the sheer brilliance of the entries inspires me so much xxx

Thank you for stopping by and please if you can, follow my little blog so I can share more of my makes with you :D

Happy Crafting :D

Anything But A Card over at That Craft Place...

Hello again,

Over at That Craft Place Challenge the theme this fortnight is No Cards!  A theme that used to fill me with dread, but I think the uber talent of my design team must be rubbing off coz I don't shake anymore...I just panic a little lol

So here it is, my design team inspiration for No Cards!

I used 3 of the Creative Expressions Betty Stamp Sets to make this altered cube into a paperweight!

One sentiment from the stamp sets...

Pic shows the base of the paperweight!
I was super pleased with how this came out I can tell you and it is actually one of the samples I made for the Creative Expressions Stamp Launch at Stitches Trade Show earlier in the year but wasn't allowed to share at the time.

There are 8 Creative Expressions Betty Stamp Sets to choose from and ALL are available at That Craft Place (or any Creative Expressions stockist).
Don't forget that other Betty Stamps can be found at That Craft Place Etsy Shop in digital format along with the fabulous Sugar and Spice digital stamps.

Here's the what's for this one:
The base is a wooden block (mine measured 2" square and was one letter in a LOVE block set I had for years, possibly from Dunhelms lol) but its the size of a toddlers block so any block will work.
The block is painted with Pinflair Buff it, watered down a little and painted on, and then I melted Metal Magic and Shabby Green Frantage on the corners and down some of the edges.  Really there is no rules to this, just make it different!
I coloured 3 of the stamps up with Copics and stamped one of the sentiments.  All were cut down to a little under 2" square and I rounded the corners with scissors as it was too small for a corner punch.
I used gloss medium to stick them on (its super sticky) and the stuck a cheap plastic draw knob to the top and flat backed pearls to the bottom for feet!
Add a little cord to the top and then gloss the whole thing to seal the colours and paper together, it also makes the colours pop!
All the supplies used can be found at That Craft Place FB group or from their actual shop shop which can be found via the new gorgeous Website.... http://www.thatcraftplace.co.uk/

Here's a couple more pics...

I was so honoured to work with Lisa Ditzie Horton on the launch samples for the Creative Expressions Betty Stamp sets launch along with the design team and I will share some more of my samples soon :D

That Craft Place Challenge starts now and so get your thinking caps on and enter the No Cards challenge.

Happy Crafting :D

Phew! 4th New Release post...and I saved my fav till last...

All of the new Betty Boots and of course the fabulous Sugar and Spice can be found in their Etsy shop HERE so don't forget to take a peek :D

So here is.....Spring Song Betty

Spring Song Betty

As always, match the insert...but no fancy purchase of insert paper, use the off-cuts from the main design! Top Tip!
Isn't she just yummy!

Here's the how's:
Spring Song Betty has been coloured with Copics and as she is Spring Song Betty I gave her vibrant colours (way out of my comfort zone!), and she is coloured on 300gsm super smooth card (from That Craft Place.  I have used Shabby Green Frantage around her to add that touch of sparkle.
The backing paper is Botanical Tea from Graphic 45 and I adore it :D  The postage stamp elements are also from the same pad, hand cut so I could dot them around the design.
I have used Papermania pale yellow card stock to mat and layer and also for the bunting die cut (its a Joanna Sheen die) and for the fan die cuts under the flowers.
There is just the addition of flowers and white spiders web to finish the design.
I have corner punched so of the corners to add a little extra detail, just in case it needed it lol

Here's the close ups:

layering of the papers

Small clusters of embellies works well

Had to add a hidden something!

New Release (post 3!) and That Craft Place Challenge....

Hello Again,

This gets better and better :D
I am here again (3rd time today, remember to press home when you're done reading to see the other 3 New Release posts xx) this time with a New Release Betty Boots for the launch of a new challenge over at That Craft Place Challenge Blog!
The theme is Anything Goes, Mother's Day so I made mine without sentiment so that it suits the theme, as I tell my kids...they should love me everyday! lol

So, which new release have I used this time.....
Here she is...Back to Work Betty

Back To Work Betty

Matching insert

I have got to say, I do love this one...

Here's the how's:
Back To Work Betty is coloured with Copic's on 300gsm super smooth card from That Craft Place and then she is matted onto dark silver and then black card to frame her.
The backing papers are from Craftwork Cards Postcards from Paris paper pad from That Craft Place and they too were matted to match.
I have kept the design simple so I could use a large bow statement piece, which is made from DoCrafts rushed ribbon (again That Craft Place) and then I added a large gorgeous embellie in the centre.  The butterflies are made using folded book pages tied in the centre with string..Top Tip, I used a square punch to cut them out so that they were all the same size and it was easier to do :D

Here's the close ups:
Simple design but fabulous dimension

Fan butterfly tied with string

match the colour tones throughout

fold out the Butterflies to different widths to add interest

I'm over EXCITED! A Brand New Challenge Blog and another New Release!

Hello again and Oh My!

Well, this is my 2nd post today.. (to those who are following along, this is the 2nd of 4 postings today so make sure you press home when you're done so you check out all of them)....but this one will not only show you another NEW RELEASE Betty Boots stamp, but also launch a new challenge blog!  WOOHOO!

The new challenge blog is.....Sugar and Betty's Challenge Blog and will showcase the fabulous Sugar and Betty stamps from That Craft Place Etsy Shop....so which one of the new releases do I have for you this time.....

I present (its like the Oscars! hehe).....Copic Betty

Copic Betty is coloured in Copic's!!! lol

Top Tip...match the insert papers/colours to tie everything in :D
Wow, I do love her :D

Here's the how's:
Copic Betty is coloured with Copic's onto 300gsm super smooth card available from That Craft Place.  I hand cut her leaving a border as I wanted definition between Betty and the background.
The background is created on canvas, primed with Gesso (from That Craft Place)...I shook small amounts of Brusho's on the canvas and then spritzed with water from a height of about 18 inches!  The result is the colour explodes out across the canvas and I love the fact we have no control over it, it will go where ever it wants...love it :D
I stamped the Tim Holtz sentiment on with VersaFine black ink and then mounted it onto black then purple card stock.  The base is a 6 x 6 inch card blank.
The only other added detail is too rip and roll a few bits of the off cut canvas to make embellies!  You know how I hate waste lol, it adds detail but also looks like paintings Betty has already completed :D

Here's the close ups:
I added a few drops of Brusho's to the insert as well!

Copic Betty

Rolled and stuck on with Cosmic Shimmer Acrylic Glue

Don't use a dye based ink as it will run into the Brusho's!

I love the mixed media look here...

The smooth Copic picture against the texture of the canvas!

Thank you for stopping by and I really hope you join us for the very first monthly Sugar and Betty Challenge
Don't forget to also press home on my blog to check out the other 3 new release showcase makes I am premièring today :D
